Here at J & C's Roofing and Building Services can offer a highly efficient and trusted solar panel installation service to private and commercial clients throughout the North East.
Our fully MCS accredited and trusted install teams are very friendly and hard working to ensure projects meet with any time scales that may be in place. We offer a bespoke 'install only' service to meet and work closely with many other accredited solar energy companies for 'Retro' and 'Integrated' panel installs.
PV installations like any other kind of work in the building trade, correct procedures need to be taken e.g. ensuring relevant panel brackets are secured correctly, checks are in place that the roof can withstand the additional load bearing and ultimately ensuring overall weatherproofing of the existing roof covering is substantial and that the installation has not affected the integrity of the roof.
How Solar Photovoltaic (PV) work
Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) is a type of renewable energy technology that is capable of converting light into electrical current, this electric can then be used in your home. If your system produces more electricity than you need, or when you can't use it. You can sell the surplus back to the grid. If your system doesn't produce enough to meet your households demand you can still import from the grid as you currently do.
Solar PV panels only require daylight not sunlight to generate electricity. However the greater the intensity of the light the greater the energy production. Most roofs can accommodate a Solar PV system, south facing with a pitch of 30 degrees are the most effective in terms of energy production. Most PV systems are made up of panels that fit on top of an existing roof with clamps etc this is called a 'retro' fit system, but you can also fit solar tiles these are known as 'integrated', these are used in place of ordinary roof tiles.
- Helps reduce your energy bills by not having to buy all your electric from your supplier
- Reduces your carbon footprint
- Gives you a return on your investment through the governments Feed in Tariff
- Earn an extra income by exporting back to the grid
- Increase the value of your home
Solar PV systems don't need much maintenance, panels tilted at an angle of 15 degrees or more have the additional benefit of being cleaned by the rain, this will help to ensure optimal performance. If you feel that they do need to be cleaned you or your local window cleaner may be able to do this for you with a telescopic cleaning pole. You will also need to make sure that trees do not start to overshadow the panels.
If you have ground mounted panels they may accumulate general dirt and muck, you can simply clean these with some warm water.
Will panels make the roof insecure during storms and high winds?
It will definitely not as Retro fitted panels are fitted very close to roof minimising space for wind to get beneath them, also all the fixing systems we use have been tested rigorously to ensure maximum stability in the event of any severe storm conditions. Furthermore, the world leader in PV installs is Germany and their climate is almost identical to ours in the UK.
What about the extra weight? Can my roof take it?
Before an installation can be carried out usually our qualified surveyor will determine that the roof is eligible for the this. However, if not we will seek approved calculations from an independent structural engineer if deemed necessary!
Will any of the slates or tiles be damaged?
We are a highly trusted and competent roofing company so our team of fitters alongside being trained solar PV installers are fully qualified and experienced in roof slating and tiling so in the unlikely event this happens we would carry out necessary repairs with no additional costs involved.
